How Can You Make the Most of Your Home Wi-Fi Network

Wi-Fi has become something is considered an essential in most homes all around the world. What would people do without the internet? They would not be able to send emails, watch videos, check the weather or look for a map in order to determine the route for their weekend trip. Wi-Fi has simply become integral to work commitments and home life.

For this reason, it is highly important that individuals know how to get the most out of their Wi-Fi system. After all, there is nothing worse than an internet connection that is slow or continuously disconnects at random moments. A lot of people do not know it, but there are ways in which people can improve their connection by doing simple things which do not cost money.
This article will reveal certain tips in order to help individuals get the most out of their Wi-Fi connection:

Find the best spot for the wireless router to be placed

Where in which the wireless router is placed in the home or in the work place is highly important.

There are several factors which determine where the best place to put the router is and these will all be explained below:

The first thing that one needs to encounter is how close the router is to the outside area. A lot of routers have an omnidirectional antenna. If the one in question does not have one then this point will not be relevant. However, if the router in question does have an omnidirectional antenna then this should not be placed against an outside wall. The reason why this is the case is because it will send half of the signals outside, thus the connection is largely wasted.

In addition to this, a lot of people want their router to be placed somewhere which is not visible, after all, nobody wants a random box or wires on show in their house. Nevertheless, this is something which is highly unadvisable. Wireless routers are very susceptible to overheating and thus they need a clear air flow in order to ensure that this does not happen. The best place to put a wireless router is in open space where they are not obstructed by anything. After all, nobody wants to have to replace their wireless system because it has overheated.

Furthermore, it is important to keep in mind the height of the router. This is especially the case in houses that have more than one level. After all, the connection needs to reach the second floor so that the internet is available in that room. Therefore it is best to have the wireless connection placed as high up as is possible.

A final point worth noting regarding the placement of the wireless router is the other appliances that are nearby. It is highly important that there is nothing which will cause interference between the wireless connections reaching the other devices needed. In order to ensure this is the case it is highly recommendable to keep the router away from all appliances in general. However, if this is not feasible then simply do research to find out which appliances give out a strong signal and avoid these, for example, an oven.

Have a top quality wireless package

It is important to make sure that one has a top quality wireless package to start with if they want to ensure internet success. There are tons and tons of different internet packages available from different suppliers today and it is vital to seriously consider which one to go for before a final decision has been made.

In order to get the information you need on unlimited mobile broadband you should search online and compare different packages, read customer reviews and take the advice of experts in the field.

If the points in this article are considered then I am sure individuals will be well on their way to getting the very best out of their wireless connection.

Apple in talks for free online radio service: Report

US technology giant Apple is in talks to license music for broadcast on a custom online radio service modeled after Pandora, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

The Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, said Apple’s service would work on the company’s hardware, including the iPhone, iPad and Mac computers, as well as potentially on PCs using Microsoft’s Windows operating system.

But it would not work on smartphones and tablets that use Google’s Android operating system, as the two technology giants are at loggerheads to dominate the lucrative mobile market.

The licensing negotiations are still at an early stage, the newspaper stressed, adding that it could take months for such a service to launch.

Just as with Pandora, ads would be placed between the music on the would-be service, which would use Apple’s iAd platform.

The Journal noted that Apple had previously weighed launching a Pandora competitor, but dropped the bid due to licensing costs.

Pandora reported last week that its revenue climbed in the recently-ended quarter but that it still lost money due in large part to royalties paid out for songs.

The Oakland, California-based firm, which creates personalized radio stations for users, reported a net loss of $5.4 million on revenue that rose 51 per cent to $101.3 million compared with the same period last year.

Pandora went public last year at $16 a share, one of several Internet companies to make their debut on Wall Street in 2011.

Microsoft aims for Guinness world record

MUMBAI: Microsoft is aiming to create to a new Guinness world record by bringing together the maximum number of people under one roof to build apps for its new Windows 8 operating system (OS) releasing in October.

The site for this hackathon or codefest will be Bangalore, the city which is probably home to the largest number of coders across the world. Windows 8 is Microsoft’s first OS that will work across tablets, smartphones and computers.

The former king of consumer software is betting big on its return to glory after ceding place to Apple and Google’s Android. The success of the OS will to a large extent depend on the apps that are available on it.

The 18-hour, non-stop jam will happen on September 21-22 and is open to everyone, including developers from outside India. Developers will code non-stop during this period and will have access to special Microsoft mentors from over the world, the software firm said. If 3500 or more developers participate in the codefest, Microsoft will create a new Guinness record.

Apps can be submitted in more than 20 categories that range from food, finance productivity, books, social, photo, music and video and shopping, Microsoft said. “The Windows 8 App Fest is an international opportunity, for developers to build their apps, which will then be available for download across the world through the Windows 8 marketplace,” it added.
